THREE Bulawayo designers, Nkululeko Ncube, Sidumiso Tshuma, and Sheenah Moyo, who participated in one of Africa’s biggest fashion platforms — the Durban Fashion Fair — are back in the country and will be exhibiting locally today. The designers will have their Summer/Spring 2015 collections available on sale at the CoFFashion Pop Up taking place at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo today.

During the Durban fair, which ran from August 21 to 24, Ncube of Rebelious Klothing, Tshuma of Shadow By Sidumiso and Moyo of BlinQ Xclusive Jewellery had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some acclaimed international designers including South Africa’s Terrence Bray, Carducci, Thula Sindi, Palse, Ghanaians Abrantie the Gentleman, Zambia’s Charity Nyirongo and Massimo Crivelli from Milan.

Shadow By Sidumiso’s collection was a mere journey in the fashion industry and it highlighted the different inspirations that have contributed to the moulding of the brand. The 15 looks range is the Summer/Spring collection for 2015 and it caters for both male and female. Cape Town based Zimbabwe Top Model — Victor Mathe — graced the ramp in a piece from the collection.

Rebelious Klothing showcased his Summer/Spring collection 2015 called Ara Kani. The 15 all-ladies look collection was about creative freedom and rebellion from conventions. It was an interpretation of the language of a free-thinker.

To promote other local creative pieces, BlinQ Xclusive’s stall had products from Litso Fashion Label, Ganu Creations, Tripple L and Nikki J Bags, among others.

The designers had their designs showcased to the who’s who of the fashion industry, international designers, fashionistas, African models and make-up artistes who attended the fashion fair. Socialites Bonang Matheba, Minnie Dlamini, YOU Editor — Chu, Dion Chang and Nicola Cooper are some of the notable faces.

Tshuma said he was enthralled to have shared the ramp with South African style icons such as Thula Sindi and David Tlale who they watched and followed when they grew up.

“It was stunning to see some of the designers that we grew up admiring sharing the ramp with us.  I was personally happy that we made the trip and represented the country and Bulawayo well,” he said.

Tshuma said people could not believe that they were from Zimbabwe and were impressed by their collection.

“After my collection was showcased I was approached by various people who were interested in them.  This was because they could not believe that we were from Zimbabwe and we were designing such creative and quality collections,” he said.
