BancABC Sup8r at Baghdad.
CAPS United brand and marketing manager, Alois Bunjira, said the defeat was a bad blow to the Green Machine.
“I am disappointed. We could have won but now we are out of the cup. We have lost two games in a row.
“There is nothing we can do but plan for the next game because we have to have to keep focused and losing is part of football,” said Bunjira.
CAPS United assistant coach Brenna Msiska blamed the state of the pitch for the defeat.
“It is painful to lose. The pitch was very bad and this could have contributed to our defeat.
“We have to go back to the drawing board and plan again. It is not the end of the world.
“We will take each game as it comes and who knows we might win the championship,” said Msiska.
His boss Maxwell Mironga, who is the club’s chief executive, said it was a bad day for them.
“It was one of the bad games I have watched this season.
“Highlanders won but both teams played badly,” said Mironga.
While CAPS were ruing the exit, Highlanders are oozing with confidence to lift the BancABC trophy.
Highlanders had not won at Baghdad since 2002 when Mukhupali Masuku was still a player and yesterday he finally broke the jinx after handing CAPS United their second defeat at the hands of Bosso yesterday.
“It feels good to win. This is our year of breaking the jinx. We had gone for six years without winning a trophy but we finally did it when we lifted the Independence Trophy.
“We had also gone for nine years without posting a victory in this field.
“Our main target this season is to win and I am sure we are going to lift the trophy,” said Masuku the Highlanders coach.
Even former Highlanders chairman Enerst “Mapepa” Sibanda was full of praise for Bosso.
“It was a very exciting match. Highlanders deserved to win.
“They played their hearts out and I am very happy,” said Sibanda.
Goal scorer Gilbert Banda said Bosso should keep their concentration levels.
“I am very happy to have scored the winner. We have progressed to the next stage.
“When we were a man down we kept fighting until the last minute,” said Banda.
Bosso were left with a man down after Lawson Nkomo earned a second yellow card although the defender says he was unfairly treated.
“The second yellow card was very fair but the first one was not. I got my marching orders but I am the happiest man.
“My team qualified for the semi finals and I just urge my fellow players to keep the spirits high.
“We lost our last game to Hwange and by this win we have gathered confidence” said Nkomo.
PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele said the match was a good advertisement for the local Premiership.
“It was a well organised match. The attendance was very good and we managed to accommodate the fans.”
