BURGLARS raided Queens Sports Club bar on Sunday night, allegedly blew open a safe before taking off with more than $2,500 and an assortment of goods including a flat screen television set,a projector, bottles of expensive whisky, spirits, beer, cigarettes, packets of biltong, peanuts and cartons of matches.

The burglars are suspected to have made their way into the bar through a window near the main entrance.

The club’s president Mqamulindaba Dube said the thieves used a bolt cutter to cut the burglar bars.

“The window of the bar was open when one of the workers came to open the bar on Monday morning. He then alerted us and we found that the whisky, beer, cigarettes and the flat screen TV, were missing. The inner office’s burglar bars were cut open and they took the projector,” said Dube.

He said they also discovered that the burglars had also entered the main office that is outside and stolen from the safe.

“When we went to the outer office the story was the same, they had opened the safe. I don’t know what they used to open it but we suspect that it’s some explosive device. Money amounting to $2,500 was in the safe and it was all stolen,” said Dube.

He said they immediately called the police and members of the Criminal Investigation Department who came to the premises to investigate.

“The CID came to investigate with their forensic unit team. They were picking finger prints from the scene. They told us not to touch anything especially by the safe as they wanted to thoroughly investigate,” said Dube.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo, said he was still to receive the report of the break-in.
