A BULAWAYO businessman admitted in court that he was having an adulterous affair when his small house claimed $285 maintenance from him. Isaiah Mucheki, 63, of Mahatshula South suburb, told a court that he could not afford the amount claimed by Qhikizana Moyo of Pumula North suburb for the upkeep of a son he sired.

Mucheki, the owner of Shepherd Security Company, told magistrate Batanai Tuwe that he could only offer $20.
He pleaded with the court not to expose the affair to his wife.

“I admit that I was involved in an adulterous affair and I don’t want my wife to know this. I don’t want my wife to hear that I was in court because this will lead to our divorce,” said Mucheki.

He said his wife had since relocated to the rural areas because he was facing financial challenges.
“I’m a father of 10 children and two were born out of wedlock. I only get money from my daughter. It’ll be difficult for her to give me money to give her (Moyo) as we’re in an adulterous relationship,” said Mucheki.

“People won’t believe that I’m getting nothing from my businesses. I lost everything in my company. I also lost my cattle and vehicles as well.” Mucheki said his business empire was crumbling and he was broke.

“I’ve a farm but it’s not functioning now. I also used to run a hotel in Matopo. Things have changed and I’m now struggling to earn a living,” he said.

Moyo told the court that she resigned from her job last year after Mucheki’s sister told her to.
“I resigned last year in December after his sister approached me saying Mucheki would take care of his child. Mucheki once threatened that he would take away my child by force. I therefore request that he pays $285 for the upkeep of his child.

“Last year he told me that he was building a supermarket in Rusape,” she said.
Magistrate Tuwe ordered Mucheki to pay $50 for the upkeep of his eight-year-old son.
