BIG Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshots Housemate, Butterphly, seems to be having a few challenges adjusting to life as a celebrity. A few hours after returning home from South Africa, the Housemate, who has been in isolation from the outside world for the past three months, took to her Facebook fan page, complaining about people’s criticisms for her un-entertaining performance in the House.

“Having my sanity butchered by criticism, struggling hard to drown negativity with optimism. God send me a life jacket,” posted the PowerFm DJ on her Butterphly Phunk page.

While in the BBA House, Butterphly was constantly criticised for her dressing and failure to provide entertainment in the House.

Some fans responded to her saying she needed to quickly adjust to life as a celebrity as criticism was part of being a public figure.

“When you went to BBA, I’m sure you knew you’d come back facing some harsh critics. It’s part of being a public figure,” posted Charles Chirambe.

“That’s the limelight dear. It happens to everyone, it’s normal. Statistically, 25 percent of people hate you, 25 percent will love you no matter what, 25 percent can easily be persuaded to hate you and the last 25 percent can be easily persuaded to love you.

“You can’t please everyone . . . love you Butty,” posted Shamiso Marambakuyana.

Nobert Takawira wrote: “Just be strong, I’m confident in you. I know you’ll sail through. Criticisms are there to encourage and ultimately elevate you.”

“She has to mind and dress like a woman. We’re sick and tired of her junk and scruffy fashion sense. Come and collect a pair of bras I bought for you,” commented Vy Vidoe Vy on her post.

Speaking at a Press briefing held in Harare, Butterphly and JJ said they did their best in representing the country as they made it to the top eight, but lost to Tanzania’s Idris.

Butterphly said she was grateful for the BBA experience as she discovered herself.

“I think we did our best as we made it to the last day. I’ve learnt a lot about myself. I thought I was wild, but when I got into the House, I figured I was actually a shy person.

“I grew in character and now know how to act,” Butterphly said.

Asked if she would give BBA another try, the mother of two said she would definitely not go back.

“It’s a crazy place. I don’t think I’d want to go back again. There’s nothing worse than not having your own space,” she said.

Like Butterphly, JJ said he was grateful for the BBA experience as it boosted his confidence and was a platform to network with influential people who from time to time conducted tasks in the House.

JJ, who had been in the previous BBA edition as a fake Housemate, said being in the Hotshots House was no honeymoon as it was not easy being in a confined space for 63 days with no communication with the outside world.

“There’s nothing worse like not being able to take a walk somewhere or drive. At times I’d wake up and remember I wasn’t at home, but I’d always remember why I’m in the BBA House,” JJ said.

Asked about his relationship with South Africa’s Housemate, Samantha, JJ said it ended in the House.

“My relationship with Samantha is only based on friendship. What happened there ended there,” he said.

The two Housemates, who were initially meant to start the BBA game in September, said they were devastated when they learnt that the House had been burnt. As a result, they were put in isolation for a month while producers were scouting around for another House.

“I can’t say where we were when the House got burnt but it was devastating as we were kept in isolation with no television or phone,” Butterphly said.

JJ, who had a strong connection with Nhlanhla (South Africa) and Idris, revealed plans to invite fellow Housemates to visit Zimbabwe. Besides that, he plans to start a clothing line and record label.

Unlike previous representatives like Pokello Nare, Munya Chidzonga, Wendall Parson and Vimbai Mutinhiri who were swarmed by fans upon their arrival at Harare International Airport, JJ and Butterphly arrived to a low key reception and were only met by their families, friends and MultiChoice Zimbabwe representatives.
