Byo artistes fail to perform as electrical fault sabotages Jam Sessions

BULAWAYO artistes in Harare for the Jam Sessions were dealt a major blow on Monday night following an electrical fault at the show venue – City Sports Bar – that forced a postponement of the event to last night. Only one artiste from Harare had performed at the sold out musical event, which had been dubbed “Bulawayo meets Harare”. Among the artistes were Sandra Ndebele, Guluva 7, Mzoe 7 and Bev who had also been added onto the line-up.

Show organiser Biggie Chinoperekwei said the fault was one which they could not fix instantly, forcing them to postpone the event to last night. The high turnout was encouraging as it showed that Bulawayo artistes had a great following. Even after the blackout, they still hung around hoping the electrical fault would be solved. Most patrons who had parted with $3 to be part of the session said they were rarely exposed to music from Bulawayo.

“We were really looking forward to meeting people from Bulawayo and it’s a pity the electricity disappointed us,” said Tendai Makahamadze.

Most Bulawayo artistes said their spirits had not been dampened as they were eager to perform yesterday. “The house was packed and we were excited to perform. However, there was an electrical fault. This hasn’t dampened our spirits as we came here to perform and perform we shall whether today or next week,” said Guluva 7.

Another artiste, Mzoe 7, said: “Everything happens for a reason and this is no different. Maybe people weren’t happy but we have to perfect our performances for the next show. I’m ready to perform and blow people away on stage.”

Chinoperekwei said they had organised the show to expose Bulawayo artistes in the capital. “We invited artistes from Bulawayo to Harare jam sessions so they have an appreciation of the event, which we are introducing in their city next week,” he said. “We also wanted them to meet artistes from Harare so they share notes and get more exposure.”
