SEVERAL Bulawayo artistes will be travelling to Harare on Sunday for the Jam Session at the City Sports Bar.

Dubbed “Bulawayo meets Harare”, the jam session – a musical event where musicians play by improvising without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements will be held at the popular bar next week Monday. It will feature performances by Jeys Marabini, Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, Albert Nyathi, Mzoe 7, Constance, Guluva 7, Lady T, Khuliyo, Asaph, Kesia, Sasha, Donna N, Tendai Chimombe, Derick Majaivana and Leektonic.

Show organiser, Biggie Chinoperekwi said the event was being held to promote Bulawayo talent by exposing the city’s artistes to new audiences.
“This event is more of an exchange programme as Harare artistes will also return the favour by coming to Bulawayo next week for a jam session at the Cecil Hotel conference room,” said Chinoperekwei.

“It’s an orientation exercise where artistes from Bulawayo will learn from established artistes who’ve been part of the jam sessions in Harare. We hope the jam session will be a success in Bulawayo.”

If all goes according to plan, Bulawayo will hold its first jam session next week Wednesday at the Cecil Hotel conference room as part of Chinoperekwi’s efforts to boost entertainment in the city while also supporting local talent. He said he was still finalising the names of the Harare artistes who will grace the inaugural jam session.

Chinoperekwi who runs the popular Private Lounge outlet said Bulawayo music fans needed to develop a culture of supporting their own talent if artistes here are to become household names.

“During the few weeks I’ve been in Bulawayo I’ve realised that there’re a few shows held to promote local artistes as compared to Harare. Bulawayo needs more shows so that artistes there develop a fan base and grow their brands,” he said.

Khuliyo yesterday said he was upbeat about performing in the capital city. For him, the show will be even more special as it will be his first time to perform outside Bulawayo considering that he is fairly new in the showbiz scene.

“This show is a welcome development as the game is changing. This time, instead of Harare artistes flocking here, we’re the ones going to their territory to show them what we’re made of.

“We appreciate Biggie’s efforts and promise to be at our best behaviour and deliver, after all, Bulawayo is the country’s arts hub,” said Khuliyo.
Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, who is a darling of many in Harare said the show could not been better timed as she wanted to reunite with her fans there.

“This for me is an opportunity to reunite with my fans in Harare,” she said.
