AMBITIOUS Southern Region Division One League side Bulawayo Chiefs continued to rule the roost by stretching their unbeaten run to an incredible 23 games at the weekend following a 2-0 win over Zim Leopards.

Chiefs last lost a league match on October 2, 2016, when they fell 1-2 to ZRP Bulawayo Province.

They have been ruthless ever since by winning 20 out of their 23 outings and drawing three times. Two of the draws were last season against Black Boots (0-0) in Week 26 and 1-1 against Ntabazinduna in a game that cost them a place in the Premiership.

This season they have won 14 of their 15 matches and sit at the top of the table with 43 points, 15 points ahead of second-placed ZPC Hwange, who have a tricky encounter at home against Bosso 90.

Despite seeing his charges running away with the title, Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda remains modest and believes the race is still open.

At the weekend, Chiefs beat Zim Leopards, a side that has done well in their debut First Division season 2-0, courtesy of goals by Arthur Musiiwa and Moses Majika.

“The hard work we’re putting in at training is       paying off. We’re enjoying a good run, not because teams are weak, but due to our ability to fight and maintain a business minded approach. We treat every game like a final because we don’t want a repeat of last season where we lost the championship on the                                                                                                                           last day of the season when we drew against Ntabazinduna.

“The race is still wide open and we can’t afford to switch off and underestimate our opponents or relax,” said Sibanda.

Chiefs need 22 points from 11 games to win the title.

ZPC Hwange can only end the season with 64 points should they win all their remaining 12 games, while seven wins and a draw will give Chiefs an unassailable 65 points.
