CITY medical practitioner Dr Nkonzo Ndebele was yesterday charged with contempt of court after he violated a protection order issued against him in 2013, barring him from abusing his ex-wife.Ndebele, 50, who runs a number of surgeries in the city, was alleged to have threatened to shoot his former wife Grace Ndlovu in violation of a Magistrates Court order directing him not to verbally, emotionally or physically abuse her.

The couple divorced in 2013, seven years after they had been customarily married.

Bulawayo Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya remanded Ndebele to February 10, on $50 bail.

Prosecutor Adelaide Chikweshe told the court that on January 17, this year shortly after 3PM, Ndebele went to Ndlovu’s workplace at Links Exclusive Pub.

He allegedly demanded his property and told her that he would take it whether or not she approved, before threatening to shoot her.

The property he was demanding was not mentioned.

“On the May 29, 2013 at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Courts, Nkonzo was ordered by the court not to abuse Grace Ndlovu verbally, emotionally or physically and he violated the court order, that is to say, Nkonzo Ndebele said ‘I am going to collect that property with or without your consent, even if it means shooting you through the heart, jumping over your body and collecting that property’,” said Chikweshe.

Although, Ndebele was directed not to abuse Ndlovu, the order did not stop him from visiting her workplace.

Part of the order read: “Respondent (Dr Ndebele) is ordered to desist from abusing applicant verbally, emotionally or psychologically. Respondent is ordered to refrain from conducting himself in a violent manner towards applicant.”
