MATABELELAND North and Bulawayo Provinces’ National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) ball games teams will leave the city this morning headed for Masvingo where the national championships will be held.Ten provinces will battle it out in four disciplines, soccer, volleyball, basketball and netball over two days, starting tomorrow and ending on Thursday.

“Our camping has been okay. We also ran around trying to get passports for some of our pupils as per requirement.   We remain positive that we will do well,” said Matabeleland North Naph chairperson, Charles Ndiweni.

His province camped at Emakhandeni Secondary School from Saturday where the 109 athletes underwent intense preparations.

Yesterday, the deputy provincial education director, Mathius Luphahla gave the provincial team a morale boost by visiting them in camp.

Bulawayo, headed by Njabulo Bango, the Mzilikazi Primary School headmaster, said his team had been preparing for the event for over two weeks.

They have a team of 78 athletes.

The games were last year held in the Midlands city of Kwekwe.

Hopes are high that the schools will exercise fair play and avoid cheating through use of over-aged players.  Calls have been made to decisively deal with cheating teachers and schools.
