If you believe you are the ugliest man in Bulawayo, you need to make your way to Cecil Hotel this weekend to audition for Mr Ugly Zimbabwe.

At least 12 contestants will be cast from Bulawayo to contest at the provincial finals next month.

One of the organisers of the event, Apama Machowa, said the four-day audition which begins today at the hotel will start at 8AM ending at 4PM.

He said this was their second time in the city after the first round of auditions produced no results last month.

“Last month, we struggled to find the right candidates for the pageant. We only got six suitable candidates and that’s why we’re back to scout for more,” Apama said.

Those shortlisted to contest at the finals will have a boot camp in Harare later this year.

“During their boot camp, the finalists will tour various tourism sites and meet and greet people. This is to make people know more about Mr Ugly,” said Machowa.

He said they were still finalising the date for the finale as well as the pageant’s venue.

The contest has already held its preliminary rounds for Harare with two-time champion, William Masvinu shrugging off competition from five other contestants to win a place in the Mr Ugly Harare provincial finals.

Last year 42-year-old Mison Sere won the Mr Ugly contest amid an uproar from fellow contestants who deemed him too handsome for the title.
