Cafca Limited, the only cable manufacturing company in Zimbabwe, re-opened its Bulawayo distribution branch yesterday after more than a decade of closure.

The company has been in existence since 1947 and is listed on the Zimbabwe, Johannesburg and London Stock Exchanges.

The company’s sales and marketing executive, Farai Mukumbira expressed optimism the firm would perform well despite the challenging economic conditions.

“While other companies are closing shop we’ve decided to re-establish our market in Bulawayo. We rented out our premises to one of our distributors but they weren’t performing well,” said Mukumbira.

“The distributor’s products were expensive because his final selling price included transport costs to move stock from Harare to Bulawayo. As the manufacturing company we’re able to absorb the cost of moving the cables. We’re very optimistic of our future in Bulawayo.”

He said the reopening of the branch would remove the hassle of travelling to Harare or outside the country to import cables.

“Most of our clients had been struggling to source products at competitive prices. A lot of our clients are importing from Botswana, South Africa and even from China. Importing is more expensive than buying products locally. Our quality of products is much better than those that are being imported,” said Mukumbira.

“We also recover decommissioned cables for recycling within a legal environmentally friendly framework. Recovered cables can even be exchanged for other products within our range.

“Another advantage is that our products are sold on short lead time. This means that you get whatever product you’ve purchased instantly.

There are also a variety of cable accessories available on site.”

The company is part of the CBI Electric Africa Cables, which is owned by Reunert Limited (RSA).

Five people have been recruited to man the Bulawayo branch.
