LOCAL hip hop sensation Cal_Vin plans to test his popularity in Bulawayo by hosting a show at the Large City Hall during which he hopes to fill the venue. The fast-rising rapper, who was inspired by Cassper Nyovest’s ambition to fill up the Coca Cola Dome in South Africa, said he wanted to prove that local hip hop has a huge following.

“I want to prove to promoters that Bulawayo hip hop artistes have a following as they always say that we don’t have one and offer to pay us peanuts,” Cal_Vin said.

“When Cassper wrote on Facebook that he wanted to do a similar thing in his country, it got me thinking that we can also do this as Bulawayo artistes,” said Cal_Vin who recently collaborated with Nyovest.

Nyovest recently posted a message on Facebook that he wanted to challenge himself to become the first South African artiste to command a full house at the Dome without a supporting act. Plans for the concert at the venue, which has hosted international acts like Chris Brown and Neyo and sits about 20,000 people, are already underway.

“I’ve always had a dream to fill up The Dome but I’ve always postponed it because it’s such a big dream but I just decided I’m going to do it this year!!! It takes about 20,000 people to fill the venue up and I want to do it alone and become the first South African act to do it”, wrote Nyovest on his Facebook page.

“I want to make history and I’m no longer running from this yearn. I believe the people of South Africa and our neighbouring countries are ready for something like this.

“I want to inspire kids and dreamers by showing them that you can do anything you can imagine through prayer, faith and hard work,” posted Nyovest.

Cal_Vin though will not perform alone as he hopes to rope in other up-and-coming hip hop artistes. If his plan comes to fruition, his show will be held towards the end of the year at the Large City Hall which has a sitting capacity of 1,200 people.

“I’m looking for corporates to sponsor the show, especially the venue. A quality show needs good sound, that’s all I’ll need for the show. It’ll feature other artistes from Bulawayo, but I’ll be the face of the show,” said Cal_Vin.

The Zikhupani hit-maker said he was confident he could attract the crowd needed to fill the City Hall, judging by his previous performance at Elite 400 where he attracted about 200 patrons.

“The show will be held in the afternoon so that everyone can attend. It will also be priced reasonably as I just want to prove that we’ve a following in Bulawayo.”
