RAPPER Cal_Vin, who won two accolades for Outstanding Male Artiste and Outstanding Hip-hop Artiste at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA), celebrated his achievements this week by dropping a track which is dedicated to his Luveve neighbourhood.

The track is titled Loxion, slang for high density area.

That Luveve Boy, as Cal_Vin is affectionately known, has always been proud of where he comes from thanking his community for constantly supporting him.

He said being recognised at the BAAs had given him hope adding that he had secretly ditched the hip hop genre after having walked away empty handed at the Zim Hip-Hop Awards last year after being nominated seven times.

“After the Zim Hip-Hop Awards last year, I decided to stop doing hip-hop because of the disappointing loss. I diverted from the hip-hop genre hence why the Thando EP had a jazzy soulful feel.

“Jeki was a Gqom track and the Zikhuphani remix was dancehall inspired,” said Cal_Vin.

“However, these awards have rekindled my love for the hip-hop game genre. I felt I could do it again and this is why I released Loxion, a hip-hop track.”

Cal_Vin said Loxion was a reflection of his humble surroundings of Luveve 5.

“In the song, I’ll be bragging about how I’ve made it cool to be from the ghetto. I always give a shout out to Luveve in my songs and other people have also started to show love to where they are from.

“So much has happened in my life and career and I’m proud that I haven’t ditched my hood in search of greener pastures like others.”

He said although he was confident he would bag the BAA Hip Hop accolade, the Best Male Artiste gong came as a surprise.

“I was surprised when I heard my name being called out as winner in the Best Male category. I was very humbled and vow to keep hip-hop alive in the city,” said the Luveve boy.
