tomorrow saying the show sets the tone and mood for this year’s Easter Holidays.
Donnie is expected to feature at the Harare International Conference Centre tonight for what has been dubbed “Call To Worship”, starting at 5.30pm.
His public performance called “Worship with Donnie McClurkin” is scheduled for tomorrow at the Glamis Stadium where the Grammy award winner will reach out to his fans with exalting worship songs.
Varaidzo Muchadeyi of United Family International, said she would not miss the concert for anything else.
“He’s a great musician and I cannot afford to miss his concert because I might not get the chance to see him again,” she enthused.
Another big fan of Donnie, Margaret Zambuko of Christ Embassy said she was overjoyed that music promoters were bringing a world class act in gospel.
“Donnie is such an amazing spiritual singer whose music touches hearts and reaches out to all people regardless of which denomination they are from,” Zambuko said.
Amos Mutemeri of Apostolic Faith Mission in Waterfalls urged promoters to bring more such acts as Donnie.
“I think Donnie is one of the most high profile gospel musicians of his generation and this is a show not to be missed. My only hope is that local promoters should try and bring artistes of his status,” he said.
Micky Chirwa of New Life Covenant Church said the coming of Donnie was timely as christians in Zimbabwe wanted to see a top gospel musician on stage.
“I have all his (Donnie) albums and he is one of the best musicians in the gospel industry. His visit augurs well with this year’s Easter festivities,” she said.
Jeffry Thomas of Celebration Centre also commended the organisers of the show for what appears to be a funfilled weekend with praise and worship.
The two concerts, which are jointly organised by Ebenezer World Outreach Ministries and Divine Concertsound, will ensure that Zimbabwean worshippers experience a weekend filled with Christ’s presence.
“The Call to Worship event is open to all and Donnie will make a guest appearance where there is also going to be a parade of Zimbabwean talent.
“However, Donnie is likely to introduce himself to his fans,” Pastor Phillip Pike of EWOM said.
The Saturday show concert is being promoted by Divine Concertsound led by David and Sharon Mwale.
Donnie is an American gospel music singer and minister.
He has won three Grammy awards, 10 Stellar awards, two BET awards, two Soul Train awards, one Dove award and one NAACP Image award for his work.
A friendship with a Warner Alliance executive resulted in his signing to the label for his 1996 self-titled LP, with producers Mark Kibble of Take 6, Cedric and Victor Caldwell plus Andrae Crouch.
The disc, which features the perennially popular “Stand”, went gold shortly after being publicly landed on the Oprah Winfrey show.
At the 48th Grammy Awards, he won in the category Traditional Soul Gospel Album for “Psalms, Hyms & Spiritual Songs”.
Donnie is best known for his hit songs “Stand” and “We Fall Down” which are played in heavy rotation on both Gospel and Urban radios.
His three solo albums have topped the Billboard carts.
