CAPE to Cairo opened its doors to the public on Friday night after months of renovations. Resident band Ecstasy provided entertainment for the club’s mature patrons. The jazz band brought back live entertainment that some people long for, a change from DJs playing CDs with tunes blaring out of the PA system which is part of the entertainment dished at most clubs,

The opening comes ahead of the official launch of the joint on Valentine’s Day by Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi.

As one entered the venue what was evident was that there was a new form of dressing for the male members of staff as they wore sleek ties and suits. To enter the joint one has to be 25 years and above and they are strict about that.

The waitresses were in their famous short skirts that left many of the mature male patrons ogling in awe.

The night spot was open at 7.00PM and by 7.30 it was already packed with excited patrons.

Many came with their partners to have a look at the night spot which has two bars.

The inside bar is reserved for those who want to drink whiskeys, brandies and vodka. The outside bar is for those drinking soft drinks, ciders, beers and lagers.

The waitresses are the ones who run around one getting orders.

Besides the cold affordable beer sold, the nightspot has game meat which includes Impala, giraffe sausages and their platters are a must eat.

Ecstasy band performed at its best as it played renditions from famous musicians such as Oliver Mtukudzi and Chiwoniso and made people dance the night away.

One of the patrons, who only identified himself as Charles, said he was happy with the developments.

“It feels good drinking in any very beautiful clean environment. Everything is new and it just feels like the good old days. I’m seeing faces that I hadn’t seen since the place closed”, said Charles

The director of Cape to Cairo Peter Mubi said he was quite happy with the turn out and the absence of the ladies of the night.

“Most people didn’t want to come to this place because hookers would flock in. This time around things will be different and I’m encouraging more ladies to come”, said Mubi.

The club once known for hookers and being dingy is surely gone. People are looking forward to more happy relaxed nights.
