STAND-UP comedian Carl Joshua Ncube is a man on a mission as he wants to break the Guinness Book of Records of Most Stand Up comedy Performances in seven days.

That record is held by an Australian comedian Mark Murphy, who set the record in 2007 when he performed 30 gigs at 30 venues in seven days all over Australia.

The ambitious Ncube who was in Bulawayo over the past week to close deals with sponsors, said his target was 35 performances at 35 venues across 12 cities in four countries in seven days.

“I want to do five shows per day so that I break the world record. I’ve got 20 venues so far and I’m negotiating with the rest over the course of this week and next week,” said Ncube.

He said when he applied, he was not sure he was going to be accepted.

“I’m excited and determined to break the 10-year-old record that’s held by Mark Murphy,” said Ncube.

The planned shows, Ncube said, will start on August 17 in Capetown, followed by Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Zambia. His performance in Bulawayo will be held on August 22 where he plans to stage shows at Copa Cubana, Nesbitt Castle and Pub Lagondola.

Tickets for the shows are already on sale and can be bought via EcoCash and TeleCash at $5. The SA show tickets can be bought on computicket.

Ncube said he had roped in charity organisations to assist him.

“As part of promoting the show I’ve given away tickets to charitable organisations so that they can sell or auction them,” said Ncube.

According to Guinness, the comedy gig must take more than 30 minutes and must be performed before a paying audience at a recognised venue, which normally stages comedy nights. Tickets must be advertised and available for sale to the general public through the usual outlets.

The concerts should be accessible to members of the press for the purposes of standard reviews. In addition, the performers should be paid and the gig should be of a professional standard.
