Zinyemba says, “In our Christian, walk we find ourselves in certain situations, predicaments, challenges and problems that seem to remain despite our real efforts to change them.
“The resistance of some of these bad seasons of life can weaken the faith of even the most powerful Christian. The devil also takes full advantage of these bad life seasons to destroy marriages, business, family relationships, hope and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ . . . “

Mrs Zinyemba’s book is one of the few publications we will glean from. She is an Executive Director with a local bank, and her 147 page book was printed in 2009 by Camorra Printers. She is also founder and director of Zimbabwe Prayer Network and at the time of publication, the Network was in more than 26 towns.

The 16-chapter book includes the following topics: All new seasons begin with a word from God; Change your attitude and mind about your situation; Take stock of what was lost; Grieve over your losses; Release the offender and the offending situations; Find burial ground; Be loosed from the tight grip of the past; Count your pearls; Learn your lessons; Enquire for a divine strategy; pursue the enemy; Reach out for the Egyptian . . .
This is a book that proffers answers on deep life questions, for example questions on how to handle life’s storms, predicaments and difficult circumstances. Francisca is married to Flavian Zinyemba, President of Christian Organisation Support Ministry (COSM) who is also an Elder with the Apostolic Faith Mission Zimbabwe. The couple constructed an interdenominational prayer and conference centre, with their family resources.

The second publication is Enjoy Life Now: Biblical Secrets to Enjoying Life on a Daily Basis by Pastor Beverly Angel of Spirit Embassy Ministries International. This 2010 publication was published by Spirit Library Publications, owned by Pastor Beverly. In the book, Pastor Beverly provides solid, tried-and-true tools to tackle life’s challenges and enjoy life on a daily basis. She shares “easy to understand” practical keys and stories from her own life that can help readers look, feel great and help them enjoy their lives now. She also exposes problems which make it difficult for believers to have joy in its fullness. Pastor Beverly, wife to

Prophet Uebert Angel is also an entrepreneur, a Bible teacher, co-founder of Spirit Embassy and the co-author of the daily devotional Power for Today.
The Greatest Commandment: Love, the Master Key to Open All Doors in Life was authored by Zimbabwean-born Annah Govereh (nee Gasseler), who lives in Zambia with her family. It was also printed in 2010 by INK Expressions in Lusaka, Zambia. Mrs Govereh says that God has called her to write Christian books to “inspire, educate and impact people’s lives”. In the book she maintains from the very onset that, “Love is essential not only to happiness, harmony, unity and productiveness, but essential to life itself. ‘He who does not love abides in death!'” (1 John 3:14). She also states this simple but powerful truism, “God is love, love is God.”

Supernatural Power of the Believer: The Secrets to Growing in the Five Dimensions of God’s Power was authored by Prophet Uebert Angel founder of Spirit Embassy Ministries International. It was also published by Spirit Library Publications.
Supernatural Power of the Believer reveals hidden secrets to growing in the five dimensions of God’s power and how believers can increase in their anointing. One reader remarked that though good, it is too technical. From these gleanings, it is clear that the books are intended for diverse readers whose spiritual growth and development will enable them have a better understanding of the Word of God.

The books can also be read on and away from the home environment with ease because all authors support their arguments with lots of scriptural reference, but acting like the Bereans for any believer would be an additional advantage.
The writer also noted that there is a growing trend in self-publishing, and the reason, to cut down on costs. However, we have to question whether this in some cases does not compromise on quality, especially the editing and packaging. Do these publishers have well skilled personnel to handle this business? This was the major reason I thought our readers should also know that there are some gifted people out there instead of spending more time on electronic materials.

But, the major question was: where are the publishers selling these books? Since these are self-publications, what marketing and distribution mechanisms are they using since I failed to locate all four titles in the few bookshops in the Central Business District, including those that sell Christian materials? Just like in the past, what still sells in our bookshops are foreign publications. Why? A random survey revealed that foreign authors are already known to international consumers since a lot of them are also televangelists on major Christian satellite channels.

One Christian said, “Competing with these people is a mammoth task. Zimbabwe’s publishing industry is almost dead, and thus there is really no one to check on quality and push for better products. Bookshops are in business and have no qualms displaying foreign publications because these are beautifully packaged. Even if the contents might not match what your locals can produce, and even if the issues do not suit local situations, but let’s face it, the products are attractive . . . Our Christian writers-cum-publishers should also learn to work together so that they exchange notes and revive this very important industry that complements the Bible.”

There are also allegations that prices of local publications are beyond reach of most people, despite their quality. However, the Spirit Library Publications well packaged. Maybe it is because they were printed in the UK. Another observer said that since these books are not found in bookstores, they probably are sold to fellow church members, which makes them doctrinal. The challenge on writing Christian material for different levels is even greater now when the electronic technology makes it look like we are entering a paperless society. And, it is even more challenging writing Christian material for young people.
