CHAPUNGU believe they can upstage Ngezi Platinum when the two sides clash in a Castle Lager Premiership encounter at Ascot Stadium this afternoon.

The airmen come into this match buoyed by a rare 2-0 away win over relegation threatened Tsholotsho at the weekend.

“Waru Waru” will be hoping to continue the fine run against the Tonderai Ndiraya coached side who need maximum points for them to enhance their league title chances.

Madamburo, as Ngezi are known, are a point behind Dynamos who have 57 points, and know a win might have a bearing on the destiny of the title.

However, Tendai Chikuni, the airmen coach believes his charges can turn around the corner and collect maximum points for the first time from the platinum miners.

“It is very difficult to collect points at this time of the season as all teams want points for various reasons. It is important that we grind results at this time of the season and it will be good for our survival,” said Chikuni.

“We are facing a tough opponent in Ngezi Platinum because they are chasing the league title and have a game plan to come which is to attack us and collect maximum points. We equally have a game plan and hopefully we will get a positive result,” he said.

Chapungu have never beaten Madamburo in three league matches they have played before with the platinum miners beating them 2-0 at Baobab last season. Chapungu forced a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at home and this year the two sides played to another draw at Baobab.

The airmen will take solace from the fact that Ngezi Platinum is yet to beat them at Ascot Stadium and that this season they have only lost twice at the venue.

The airmen lost 1-2 to Hwange in their third game of the season before they were clobbered 4-0 by Dynamos.
