VETERAN gospel musician, Pastor Charles Charamba, is expected to jolt the mining town of Zvishavane into life tomorrow when he and his band, Fishers of Men, headline YAFM’s Gifted Children Benefit Concert which is set to be held at the station’s Radio Park.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards Gifted Children, a charity foundation whose purpose is to help school children in the Great Dyke region. The foundation, which was founded in 2016, is the brainchild of the station’s chairman Munyaradzi Hwengwere.

Pastor Charamba is expected to be the main attraction during a gig that will have an early start, as proceedings are scheduled to kick off at 10AM with entertainment provided by artistes from the Great Dyke who include Admire Nago, Attalia Parehwa and Panganai Sithole.

One of the organisers of the gig, Ellen Nyika, revealed that the concert, the result of a joint effort by YAFM and Leo’s Boutique, was founded by Hwengwere in 2016 in honour of his late mother who was a notable philanthropist in her own right.

“Mr Hwengwere thought of the idea of the foundation after the death of his mother, someone who had been looking after children in the Great Dyke and helping them with their education. After she passed away, he felt he had to step in and fill the gap she had left and that’s how the idea came into being,” said Nyika.

She added that so far, the foundation catered for 20 children from the Great Dyke region, with plans to take in more children as the charity organisation expanded. All the proceeds from Saturday’s extravaganza will go towards the foundation.

“This is an ongoing project and it’s still growing. We want to make sure that by the end of the year, we’ve got at least 50 more children under the foundation’s umbrella. So we urge the people of Zvishavane to turn up in their numbers and support an initiative whose main purpose is to help children have a better future,” Nyika said.

Those who want to see Charamba in action and support the cause will have to part with $2 at the gate.
