Chibuku Cup draw today

Chibuku SUPER Cup

Harare Bureau
PREMIERSHIP greenhorns Yadah Stars, impressive in recent weeks, are eagerly waiting for the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final draw which will be held this afternoon.

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee met last night to deliberate on that fateful game which was not completed at Ascot a week ago after the Chicken Inn players walked off the pitch in protest of a late penalty they conceded when it was adjudged that defender Moses Jackson had impeded Yadah midfielder Milton Makopa.

However, the sitting is about just confirming the penalty to be imposed on the Gamecocks as the rules and regulations of the tournament are very clear on such incidents.

Chicken Inn will learn the severity of their punishment which is likely to be a fine of $2 000 and a ban in the next edition of the tournament, again according to the rules.

Article 7.6 of the competition rules say “If a team… refuses to continue play or leaves the stadium before the end of the match, the team will be considered as having lost the match in question.

“The match will be awarded to its opponents on a score line of 3-0…’’

Article 7.7 says, “the defaulting team shall be banned from participating in the next edition of the Chibuku Super Cup,”

Yesterday Yadah caretaker coach Thomas Ruzive, who is enjoying the game since taking over the reins from his boss Jairos Tapera, who was relieved off his duties, says they were already looking forward to the quarter-final draw.

“Reaching the quarter-finals on its own is a clear demonstration that we are a side that can compete with any other team in the domestic league and still go all the way.

“The Chibuku Super Cup has shown that there are no small or big teams. We are all at par as long as we are in the same league. So every team is capable of winning it and as a coach I cannot reason otherwise.

“It has been nice for us, this is our first year in the Premiership and I can say we are enjoying the competition. We are waiting for the draw and even the boys are ready to do their job,” said Ruzive.

Eight teams — league champions and new favourites Caps United, 2015 Chibuku Super Cup winners Harare City, Chapungu, Black Rhinos, Bulawayo City, Shabanie, How Mine and Yadah — will go into the hat to decide which teams will battle against each other this weekend.

After six of the eight teams which were seeded in the first round fell by the wayside, the Green Machine have emerged the new favourites for the prestigious tournament which comes with a ticket to play in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Lloyd Chitembwe charges made a huge statement of intentions as they stunned Cup holders Ngezi Platinum 1-0 at Baobab.
