BULAWAYO side Chicken Inn have returned to the top of the table after the Premier Soccer League’s disciplinary committee awarded them three points on a 3-0 score line for their abandoned match against Dongo Sawmill at the end of June.

Chicken Inn chairman Lifa Ncube broke the news on his Facebook timeline on Thursday evening.

“Back on top of the log. Been awarded our three points for the abandoned game,” Ncube wrote.

He later confirmed to Chronicle Sport that his club had been awarded the match on a 3-0 score line, propelling the Bulawayo side to the top of the table with 34 points, two points clear of second placed Triangle, who led the standings for about a week.

The match was played at Luveve Stadium June and abandoned shortly after the hour mark when the visitors’ medic Urayayi Chikwarange was allegedly sprinkled with an unknown substance by the Game Cocks’ goalkeepers coach Julius Ndlovu.

The incident occurred with Chicken Inn leading 1-0 through midfielder Tafadzwa Kutinyu’s strike three minutes before the breather.

Prior to the incident, Chikwarange had been involved in a tussle with Chicken Inn goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze when he went onto the pitch to treat one of his injured players. Ndlovu then confronted the visitors’ medic as he was making his way to the bench and allegedly sprinkled him with the unknown substance.

Chikwarange fell and was rushed to hospital while Ndlovu was arrested and taken to Luveve Police Station.

Dongo Sawmill players refused to continue with the match citing the absence of their medic.

The two teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture last Sunday, leaving the Rusape-based side firmly rooted at the bottom of the league table with 12 points from 17 games – a massive 22 points behind Chicken Inn.
