BULAWAYO’S Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Nomthandazo Eunice Sandi-Moyo has urged churches to respect and support President Robert Mugabe’s leadership.Addressing thousands of congregates gathered at the ordination ceremony of 43 bishops from different denominations under the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) at the Large City Hall yesterday, Moyo said church leaders play a crucial role in the community as they’re opinion leaders.

“Leaders are chosen by God, President Mugabe is the current God Chosen leader and Zanu- PF is also the ruling party chosen by God. The opposition parties may try but they’ve lost the battle. As leaders and Christians we mustn’t go against God’s will, we must respect God’s will,” said Moyo.

She said churches should be given opportunities to partake in national events. “I’ve realised that churches aren’t given platforms to participate in national events like the Independence Day celebrations . We’re organising for the church to get an opportunity to sing and pray at these national events,” added Moyo.

ACCZ president Archbishop Johannes Ndanga said churches were happy with the appointment of President Mugabe as the African Union chairman.

“We’re happy about all the changes that took place in the ruling party recently. Everything that happens is God’s will. We’re also happy that he was appointed as the African Union chairman, this shows clearly that he is God’s chosen one,” he said.

Last week President Mugabe criticised leaders of some Pentecostal churches who mislead their congregants into believing they can get rich quickly, while demanding that the church members give all they have to the church to enrich the pastors.

Cde Mugabe also lamented the moral decadence in society. He said Pentecostal churches were cheating desperate congregants by making them believe that they could become rich overnight.

President Mugabe said it was unfortunate that people were desperate to have their desires met and urged people to be patient and work hard as prescribed in the Bible, to sustain their livelihoods.
