CIWU maintain focus on title

FIREWORKS are expected when CIWU face relegation candidates Lupane State University (LSU) in a Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two midweek fixture that is slated for Eveline High School this afternoon.

With the title race shaping up for a photo finish, CIWU will have a chance to play catch up on the number of games played by their title rivals Ajax Hotspurs and Toronto. Today’s fixture will have a huge bearing on the title race and relegation matrix.

The two teams go into the game with contrasting fortunes, a win for CIWU takes them to 56 points, level with table toppers Toronto who will remain top by virtue of a superior goal difference while LSU will sink deeper into the relegation zone as one more defeat will see them automatically relegated. It has been a disastrous season for LSU who have collected a paltry five points from the 23 games played, scoring 16 goals while leaking an enormous 88 goals.

CIWU go into the game after a 2-2 draw away to Main Line at the weekend in which they came from behind to get a result after they found themselves trailing 2-0 at half time.

LSU go into the game at the back of a disappointing 5-0 drubbing at the hands of How Mine. With little realistic chances of survival LSU will be no pushovers going into this game.

“We are prepared for the game tomorrow (today),we knew at one point we would have to fulfil this fixture, so we have been ready. It is a big fixture because we are playing catch up with the leaders and this is a big test of character playing a bottom placed side. We are not leaving anything to chance we are just going in there to get a result and keep our championship dream alive. It is a crucial stage for everyone now so maintaining focus is very key,” said Kudzie Mhandire the CIWU coach.
