RELEGATION favourites Whawha FC believe the move to bar on-loan players from FC Platinum in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League game against the miners at Mandava Stadium contributed to their heavy loss.

Whawha were clobbered 3-0 by the Zvishavane-based platinum miners in a match that all on-loan players from FC Platinum were barred from facing their parent club.

The prison warders could not use the five players’ on-loan from FC Platinum as clauses were inserted into the loan agreement barring them from playing against their paymasters.

The five key players that missed the crucial match are Nelson Mazivisa, Livingstone Genti, Cleopas Kapuputika, Fleance Mwerenga and Clifton Mwale.

Whawha coach Lloyd Mutasa bemoaned the absence of the five, whom he said formed the core of his team.

“The absence of five key players was a blow and very much felt because the on-loan guys are my players, especially at a time like this when we are fighting relegation,” said Mutasa.

“It’s unfortunate that they didn’t play because of a clause in their contracts, which bars them from playing against FC Platinum. The last time we played against FC Paltinum at Ascot Stadium, they also did not take part.

“We really missed the players as we lacked shape in midfield as most of the guys are midfielders and we did not even create any meaningful chances.

“We faced the same situation when we lost to Dynamos in the reverse fixture as Nigel Gandari, who is contracted to them, was also not allowed to play,” a disappointed Mutasa said.

However, Mutasa conceded that the absence of the players was no excuse for his side’s defeat and maintained that the fight for relegation was no longer in their hands.

The prison warders are on 20 points and lie second from the bottom with five games to go.
