AN 18-year-old Mangwe woman has been arrested for making a false rape report against her boyfriend.

Sithokozile Ncube of Lumawe Village in Mayobodo area was convicted on her own plea of guilty to deliberately supplying false information to the police by Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Manwere.

She was sentenced to five months imprisonment, but two months were suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

The remaining three months were suspended on condition that she performs 105 hours of community service at Mayobodo Primary School.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said Ncube  reported that she was raped by her boyfriend, Mr Cephas Nyoni but later withdrew the charges saying she had lied.

“On 3 March Ncube went to Mayobodo Police Station where she reported that her boyfriend, Mr Cephas Nyoni had raped her at a bushy area.

“Constable Mhere who was stationed at the charge office recorded her statement and Ncube signed it thereby authenticating that it was true,” she said.

Mrs Sibanda said a few days later, Ncube went back to the police station and filed a withdrawal affidavit stating that she was not raped but had rather consented to having sexual intercourse with her boyfriend.

In her withdrawal affidavit, Ncube said she made the false report after she arrived home late from spending time with her boyfriend.

“I reported a case of rape against my boyfriend Mr Cephas Nyoni but the truth is that I had consented to having sexual intercourse with him. I arrived home late from visiting my boyfriend and my mother asked where I had been.

“I told her that my boyfriend forced me into his bedroom hut and raped me. My mother then told me to report the matter to the police and that was when I made a false report.

“My boyfriend later denied the allegations and confronted me over the matter until I decided to set the record straight,” said Ncube in the affidavit.
