A MAN from Njube suburb in Bulawayo allegedly impersonated a police officer and demanded a $20 bribe  from two lovers he caught  redhanded having sex in a bushy area on Independence Day.Brighton Mpofu who resides at G39 at Njube suburb in Bulawayo yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso facing impersonation charges and unlawfully wearing camouflage pair of trousers.

Prosecuting Mitchelle Chiboiwa said Mpofu pretended to be a police officer and demanded $20 from the couple he found having sex in a bushy area. The court heard that on April 18 at around 9PM along an unnamed road in Mabuthweni, Mpofu found Makaziwe Ncube and Xolisani Mpala having sex in a bushy area. He allegedly indicated to the two that he was a police officer and led them towards Western Commonage Police Station. On their way to the station, Mpofu allegedly demanded a $20 bribe from the pair so he could release them.

Ncube is said to have produced a $10 but Mpofu said it was not enough forcing Mpala to offer to collect the remainder from her home in Lobengula suburb.

The three then proceeded to Lobengula and Mpofu together with Ncube are said to have waited outside the house while Mpala went to collect the money.  Ncube and Mpala later reported the case to police officers on patrol leading to Mpofu’s arrest.

Mpofu pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded to April 30.
