CONFEDERATION of Schools’ Sport Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) president Johnson Madhuku yesterday praised the performance of the girl child at the on-going regional ball games in Bulawayo. Madhuku singled out the performance of the visiting Namibian girls, saying locals should take a leaf from their dedication.

“The high level of performances by the Namibian and Botswana girls’ teams left worries in the Zimbabwean camp. Zimbabwean girls haven’t performed well in these games, but we hope they will bounce back,” said Madhuku.

On Wednesday Namibia’s Under-17 girls’ soccer team beat their Zimbabwe Unde-17 counterparts 3-1 and the local Under-13 girls also fell 0-1 to Botswana.

Yesterday the Namibia Under-13 girls were beaten 0-3 by Botswana while the Zimbabwe Under-13 girls bounced back from their loss to Botswana to beat Namibia 2-0. Zimbabwe Under-13 were then hammered 0-5 by Botswana. The local Under-17 girls fell 2-5 to Botswana.

In basketball the Zimbabwe senior girls beat Botswana 64-24 while the boys beat Namibia 90-39.

The ball games are continuing today at various venues followed by the closing ceremony later in the day at White City Stadium.
