BULAWAYO Metropolitan provincial education director Dan Moyo yesterday encouraged Team Zimbabwe to have a positive attitude for them to win the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) ball games that kick off in the city today. About 1,000 athletes from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe will compete in the games that start after the official opening ceremony at White City Stadium this morning. The games end on August 30.

Moyo urged Team Zimbabwe to raise the country’s flag high when he addressed the athletes at the side’s send-off at the end of a 10-day camp at Northlea High School.“As athletes, you have to know that you have reached another level. You were identified from your individual schools to district level to provincial (and) now you are representing the nation. You are no longer representing your school but the pride of the country,” said Moyo.

“The attitude you have at the beginning should be a positive attitude that will drive you to win gold medals. Let’s remove the negative attitude,” he said.

He said the athletes must perform to their level best as the competitions are a window for developing athletes for the Olympic Games to be held in Brazil next year.Naph Matabeleland North chairperson Charles Ndiweni urged the team to do their best for the country.“Let’s do our best as a team and win gold medals,” said Ndiweni. The send off was sealed by the Under-14 rugby team’s war cry before the team moved into the Games’ Village at Hillside Teachers’ College.
