THE Bulawayo City Council has recorded tremendous progress in its various projects following the launch of the 100 days Rapid Results Approach (RRA) last month.

On September 19, 2017, the council, through the RRA programme set targets to complete various projects including connecting water to 3 000 stands in Cowdray Park Hlalani Kuhle within the 100 days framework set by Government.

The RRA programme helped the council to engage in projects that seek to meet results in the shortest possible time including the ease of doing business.

Addressing residents during a review of the programme recently, Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said the local authority has made a number of key achievements since the launch of the programme.

“In water supply we’ve managed to reduce our backlog of water leaks from 890 to 67.

“I’m pleased that we’ve completed the Marvel outfall sewer. It’s my hope that before the end of the year the perennial sewer problems which have been affecting Mahatshula residents will be a thing of the past,” said Mr Dube.

He said servicing of stands is well on course, with Magwegwe North housing stands almost complete while a large part of Luveve will be complete by the end of the targeted period.

“The roads target has been exceeded. We have managed to rehabilitate 44km of roads with reseals, reconstruction, overlays and pothole patching. We’ve also managed to reduce the period of approving plans to two weeks from three months,” said Mr Dube.

The Town Clerk said the challenges in procuring materials were a major setback in the achieving the targets, adding that the economic situation was also making it difficult to fast track projects.

He commended community groups for assisting the council to achieve the targets, especially for the pothole patching projects.

Mr Dube emphasised the need for residents to protect council’s infrastructure from abuse and vandalism.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo said council is committed to ensuring that all transactions are in the public domain to ensure participation by residents.

“This is a clear display of our continued commitment to engaging the public and sharing information.

“As a local authority we’re involved in making numerous decisions and these reflect our values and beliefs towards attaining our goals,” said Clr Moyo.
