A 14-member Zimbabwe cricket senior national team squad is in camp preparing for next month’s long tour of Bangladesh.

Barely a fortnight after competing in the triangular One Day International series with Australia and South Africa, the national team players reported for camp in Harare to get ready for the long tour of Bangladesh.

The trip to Asia which will see Zimbabwe leave next month and returning in December will be the country’s longest in more than a decade and they are scheduled to play three Test matches and five ODIs.

Lovemore Banda, the Zimbabwe Cricket media and communications manager said the squad has been drawn from the 25 players that were in the training team ahead of the August triangular  series.

“The senior squad is in camp save for those that are with the Zimbabwe A in Bangladesh. The team is preparing for the long tour since the country’s phased return to Test cricket after deliberately suspending fulfilling those commitments to give their side enough experience in the longest version of the game. Zimbabwe has been playing one-off Test matches. Their away tours have also had a maximum of three ODIs,” said Banda.

Players that were in the group that trained for the triangular series and are with the Zimbabwe A are top order batsman Vusi Sibanda, Regis Chakabva, Michael Chinouya, Luke Jongwe, Tafadzwa Kamungodzi, Neville Madziva, Shingirai Masakadza, Tino Mawoyo, Richmond Mutumbami, Taurai Muzarabani, Mark Vermeulen and Malcolm Waller.

The senior team’s programme will see them having two sessions daily, doing fitness training in the morning and then work out on skills, nets and fielding in the afternoon at Harare Sports Club.

From October 11-14 the team will have a training camp in Chiredzi before departing for Bangladesh on October 16.
