CSL championship race takes twist

THE race for the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) took another dramatic twist over the weekend after Nichrut continued its fine run by beating Whawha 1-0 at Peak Mine Stadium.
An Andrew Kanchwanchwa flashing header four minutes from full time was all the Shurugwi-based side needed to collect maximum points.
Nichrut powered to second position on the log with 60 points and are now a point behind Tongogara who reclaimed top spot after beating Black Eagles 2-0.
However, Whawha still have a game in hand as their outstanding match against Makusha is yet to be decided by the region’s disciplinary committee.
Should the committee rule in their favour, Whawha will reclaim the top spot with four rounds of matches left before the season ends.
A verdict against them will retain the status quo.
Luke Petros-Jukulile, Whawha coach is not worried about the outcome of the disciplinary hearing, saying his focus is on remaining matches.
“All we want is to play football and it is still game on. What we need to focus on is to ensure that we win all our remaining fixtures and see how things go. As you can see that competition this season is tough hence it’s still anyone’s game for the top three teams,” said Petros-Jukulile, a former Warriors striker.
According to Central Region chairman, Stanley Chapeta, Whawha will know the outcome of their abandoned game against Makusha during the course of this week.
Nichrut coach, John Nyikadzino praised his charges for collecting maximum points against the former Premiership side.
“I am happy with the win especially against a good side like Whawha who have the experienced players like Edmore Muzanenhamo but at the end of it all we wanted it more than them. What we now need to do is to focus on our next games,” Nyikadzino said.
