THE Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) will today hold its end of year season awards in Shurugwi to honour the season’s best performers.

This follows the region’s soccer stars selection which was conducted by journalists from the province on Thursday in which 11 outstanding players were selected during a ceremony presided over by  Zifa board member competitions, John Marima.

“We came up with the soccer stars as a way of encouraging players and other stakeholders in our league so that they work hard and be recognised,” said Marima.

To be honoured at today’s ceremony will be premiership bound Nichrut who won the championship as well as the region’s best player together with his two runners up.

Also to be honoured today will be the regional top goal scorer which goes to Jacob Muzokomba who scored 20 goals, the Goalkeeper of the Year and Coach of the Year accolade which will be a toss up between Nichrut coach John Nyikadzino for having guided his side into the premiership and Tongogara’s Kelvin Maphosa whose side took the championship fight to the wire in his first season as head coach. Muzokomba of Nichrut, Delight Chivhunduko of Tongogara and Chrome Stars’ Victor Moyo are the favourites to land the region’s soccer star of the year after a memorable season.

The reigning Soccer Star of the Year is Ricky Bota, who is now turning out for PSL side Chapungu. Bota helped Shabanie Mine gain promotion into the topflight league last year which also saw Tendai Chikuni landing the Coach of the Year award.
