BULAWAYO’S Brendon Cyprianos headlines the Zimbabwe team for the Cana Zone IV Swimming and Waterpolo Championship set for the city from February 16-19.

Cyprianos, who scooped three silver medals at the African Union Sports Council Region Five Games in Luanda, Angola, last month, is part of a 70-member team released by the Zimbabwe Aquatic Union (ZAU) last weekend.

Zimbabwe will field two teams made up of 38 swimmers in the Under-12 and under to 17 years and overage groups, which make up Team A, and 32 players in the same age groups in Team B.

Zone IV has 14 countries that are all expected to send strong competitors, with Kenya attending as a guest country.

Kenya, who are in Zone III, have announced that they will send 25 swimmers to Bulawayo, motivated by the fact that the championships are a  International Swimming Federation (Fina)-approved event where swimmers can achieve A and B Fina qualifying times for the 17th Fina World Championship in Budapest, Hungary, later this year.

Countries are expected to arrive on or before February 15 and the programme officially starts the following day of arrival with a managers’ meeting followed by a presentation on anti-doping.
