AT least 50 players are expected to compete at the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League sponsored Chairman’s Singles Trophy that starts today and ends on Friday at Bellevue Sports Club.Lethukuthula Nkomo, a member of the tournament’s organising committee said the competition is open to players affiliated to their league.

“All league matches have been cancelled as we are having the Chairman’s Trophy. We expect each club to send at least four representatives. We are looking forward to an exciting tournament as the league is in its peak,” Nkomo said.

Defending league champions Archers Sports Club have declared their desire to win the tournament with club captain Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda saying all their players will attend the competition.

They will be pinning their hopes on the quintet of Brian Ndlovu, Albert Tawanda, Bes Ncube, Tafadzwa Mutomba and Simeon Jones.

“As Archers Sports Club our motto is to go for everything on offer. All my players are going and we want to bring the trophy home to show that we are the champions. We want to continue with our winning culture by claiming the Chairman’s Trophy,” said Sibanda.

Some of the top players expected at the tournament are Railstars’ Patrick Zimidzi, Moses Ndlovu of Old Nic Mine, Kerepatsi Mleya of Wisewaters and Fairbridge’s Jimmy Magwai.

Melusi Tshuma of Highlanders and Railstars’ duo of Ndabezinhle Ngwenya and McLean Chirwa are underdogs alongside youngsters Lovejoy Arimoni (How Mine), Parkview Lions’ Mandla Dube and Mgcini Nkala.
