CONSTRUCTION of a multi-million dollar complex will start in Lupane in October with a team of engineers expected to start the architectural work for the investment next month.

Last month, Glow Petroleum managing director Mr Aaron Chinhara said they had set aside $3 million to build the multi-purpose complex in Lupane so as to give the Matabeleland North provincial capital a new look that meets its status.

In an interview yesterday, he said:

“Our architects and engineers will be on the ground in Lupane early next month where they will meet council officials there as well as undertaking  technical work for the project for the whole of September. Construction work is expected to start in October.”

During the construction stage, the project is expected to create about 80 jobs while many others would be created directly and indirectly when the complex is completed.

The multi-purpose complex, which comprises a forecourt, banking halls, modern day supermarkets and an amusement centre, will be built on a 10 000 hectare piece of land.

A number of development projects are earmarked for Lupane with Lupane State University, Elitsheni Government Complex, Bubi-Lupane Dam, gas and coal exploitation being part of the major investment attractions for the town.

It is believed that the Matabeleland North provincial capital will now be able to attract more investors following the recent completion of the town’s master plan which is expected to serve as a guide in the development of the town.

Since its establishment, Lupane Business Centre has never had a master plan or structure, a situation that has seen potential investors shying away from investing in the town.

The Local Development Plan, concluded in October 2001 and the Strategic Plan (2015-2020) are meant to guide spatial development and growth respectively. — @okazunga
