Dates for the Miss Environment Zimbabwe national finals have been finalised after months of uncertainty as organisers of the pageant frantically sought sponsorship.
The pageant which makes a comeback this year after a two-year absence will be held at Horizon Pub and Grill in Bulawayo on November 28. A total of 21 one models drawn from the country’s 10 provinces will battle it out on the ramp for the crown.The queen will become the international ambassador of the pageant.

The pageant will run under the theme: “Environment Conservation through ICT”.

Organisers, Green for Lyfe Consultancy said they had finally secured prizes for the queen and her princesses.

“Those who will be crowned Miss Environment, first and second princess will win a holiday package to Binga courtesy of Fiesta Hospitality. They will also get cash prizes among other prizes,” Green for Lyfe director, Braiton Takundwa said.

Miss Climate and Miss Air Pollution will also be crowned to encourage the models to focus on the problematic environment issues affecting the world.

“Air pollution is causing climate change in the country and in the world so models are expected to work on projects that raise awareness on these global challenges,” Takundwa said.

He said the lady who will be crowned Miss Environment Zimbabwe would have earned most of her marks during prejudging.

“The girls will do projects which will contain 90 percent of their marks. The ramp will only constitute 10 percent of their marks. The projects will be judged by members from Environment Management Agency, Forestry Commission and other people who are experts in environmental issues,” he said.

Bulawayo-based model and designer, Nkanyeziyethu Malunga was the inaugural winner in 2012.
