A DAVID Livingstone Memorial Secondary School pupil got 10 As while another from Msiteli Secondary School in Bulawayo attained 11 As and two Bs in the 2014 Ordinary Level examinations. An ecstatic Butholezwe Sibanda — the former headboy at David Livingstone Memorial Secondary School in Ntabazinduna — ascribed his success to hard work, diligence by his teachers and God’s guidance.

He sat for 10 subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Physical Science and English.

Ngqabutho Sibanda, 16, of Msiteli Secondary School, said his distinctions had allowed him to take the first step towards achieving his dream of being an aeronautical engineer.

He proudly displayed a result slip showing he got As in Physics, Biology, Additional Mathematics (Calculator), Technical Graphics, History, Geography, Ndebele, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Mathematics (calculator version) and Bs in English Language and Chemistry.

“I’m so pleased with my results. I put in a lot of study hours and it has paid off. I’m especially happy that I did well in my science subjects because I want to do Mathematics, Physics and Biology for my Advanced Level,” said Ngqabutho.

The wonder boy went on to thank his teachers, study group and God saying they were the mainstay of his success.

“My teachers inspired me to do well. I was the only pupil in my class who did Physics. The other pupils shunned it saying it was too difficult.

“I didn’t give up and my teacher taught me until I wrote the exam and passed. Ever since I was in Grade Three, I’ve always come out top in all my classes and I thank God for that,” said Ngqabutho.

Meanwhile, other pupils who did well at David Livingstone Memorial Secondary School are Dumisani Sibanda who obtained five As and three Bs in science subjects, Christian Nyamaziwa who scored five As, three Bs and two Cs. The school’s  headmaster Vusumuzi Nkiwane told Chronicle he was pleased with pupils’ performance.

“As the school’s head I’m very happy. We are striving to be the best. So far it is very promising. We expect parents to help us and support children by giving them frank and positive criticism. We will continue to work very hard as a school to produce the best results,” said Nkiwane.

In the 2013 Ordinary level examinations David Livingstone was ranked 64th nationally whereas in 2014 they were number 55.
