AT least 13 teams are expected to participate at Saturday’s fifth edition of the Davis Granite/Sizane High School Sports Fun Day meant to raise money for the underprivileged. The teams will compete in football, netball, darts, chess and tug-of-war at Pelandaba’s Sizane High School. Veronica Stanley, a member of the organising committee, said arranging the competition whose proceeds will be donated to charity is part of their social responsibility programmme.
She said the sports festival has grown bigger with each passing edition.

“The sports day forms part of the company’s social responsibility programme and commitment to the HIV/Aids programme and fosters interaction between the youth, the Aids council, the police, the Prison and Correctional Services, Bulawayo City Council and a number of business organisations around the city.

“The Davis Granite/Sizane High School Sports Day has grown year by year and has seen more and more teams participating and the accrued benefits being distributed to underprivileged children,” Stanley said.

To celebrate their fifth year, Saturday’s programme will start with a procession in the western suburbs with the games starting at 10AM.
Stanley said Davis Granite has organised similar sports days in conjunction with WhaWha Prison School in Gweru and plans are at an advanced stage to spread the festivals to Harare and Marondera.
