DeMbare fans on cloud nine Dembare supporters

Dynamos fans celebrated their team’s storming start to the African Champions League soccer campaign.
Dynamos crushed Algerian champions and 1976 winners Mouloudia Al-ger of Algeria 4-1 to virtually put one foot into the second round of the continent’s biggest club knockout tournament.
Fans heeded calls by both Dynamos and the Zimbabwe National Soccer Su-pporters’ leadership to come in their numbers to root for their favourite side.
The fans did not disappoint either by turning a packed Rufaro into a sea of blue and white with an estimated 30 000-strong crowd being first hand witnesses to this thrilling encounter.
Dynamos fans have a history of ma-king life difficult for visiting teams with their noise. Their team took a 2-0 half time lead courtesy of goals by defender Guthrie Zhokinyi and striker Roderick Mutuma.
Music from the disco that had been playing before the match also helped put the fans into party mood. As if on cue, the Deejay played Thomas Ma-pfumo’s “Nyoka Musango”, which has become a DeMbare signature tune soon after South African referee Jero-me Damon had blown for half-time.
Dynamos, playing an efficient and near flawless game, responded by add-ing two more goals in the second period via the efforts of Farai Vimisayi and stylish midfielder Denver Muka-mba whose ball control and dribbling endeared him with the fans.
The Harare Central Business District is normally quiet on Sundays, but minutes after 5pm yesterday, a convoy of all kinds of vehicles from luxury cars, commuter omnibuses, conventional buses, lorries to the run down cars, blurring horns as fans made their way from Rufaro.
Most of the cars either had the blue and white Dynamos flags or the na-tional flags protruding through the windows while the more fanatic fans toyi-toyed all the way from the stadium into the city centre.
While some made their way home, others headed for different bars ac-ross Harare while braai parties eru-pted at such popular open air joints as Ziko in Chitungwiza, Mereki in Warren Park and Zindoga in Waterfalls.
Most fans also reckoned that the supporters would continue to pack Rufaro if Lloyd Mutasa’s men maintain the kind of five-star show they displayed in yesterday’s game.
Dynamos had been hogging the limelight with fine displays in an un-beaten build-up to the season.
But yesterday they proved that tho-se dazzling shows in the Bob 87 Super Cup and Hexagon Venture for Victory Cup against CAPS United and Highlanders were no fluke with as polished a show as they come.
Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas, who were watching the game after knoc-king out Motor Action from the same competition at the same venue the previous day, said they had been lucky to avoid Dynamos.
