KALAWA Jazmee artiste Diliza celebrated Independence in style with his countrymen at Horizon Night Club in Bulawayo with a performance that was more about getting fans to know him and his music.

The Shaker mntwana hit maker, from Luveve, performed in front of a sizeable crowd.

Diliza, born Delany Dondo, spotting a dungaree and a pair of white All Star Converse takkies, got down to business at around 12Midnight. Although it was a 30 minute set, the whole experience was enjoyable with the crowd singing along to most of his tracks such as the ever popular Shaker mntwana, Kalawa GP and some from his group Stiff.

After making people dance, Diliza signed off by telling revellers that he was from Luveve and was glad to be performing in the city with his countrymen on Independence Day.

Before he performed, DJs Kead Wikead, Black Cee, Skaiva, Lacusto and Que Bass kept the crowd on their feet. Kwabatsha of the Batshi fame also gave a good account of themselves with their live performance.

After the show Diliza said he had been looking forward to performing in front of a Zimbabwean crowd.

“This was a great show, I enjoyed being in front of the crowd. I’ve been looking forward to doing a show by myself in the city,” he said.

Diliza spoke highly of the local acts that preceded his performance saying with a little help they could make it in the music industry.

Diliza moved to South Africa in 2009. During the same year he submitted a demo to Kalawa Jazmee Records which was approved and he was signed under the stable.

He has collaborated with South Africa’s renowned musicians Alaska, Uhuru, Professor, Oskido, Black Motion, Spikiri, Character, UDU, T’zozo and Tira.

Diliza bragged about being born in Bulawayo at last year’s annual Kalawa Jazmee Homecoming party where he was part of a line-up of artistes who performed at Queens Sports Ground in front of more than 6,000 revellers.

He shared the stage with newly-recruited group Stiff.
