THE Medical Superintendent of Mnene Mission Hospital in Mberengwa, Dr Nyasha Makura allegedly ran amok and stabbed a rival suitor several times on both thighs in a fight over a girlfriend.Midlands Provincial Medical Director (PMD) Dr Milton Chemhuru confirmed the incident which occurred on Friday.

He said he had received a report from a District Medical Officer only identified as Dr Nyachowe claiming that Dr Makura had stabbed someone.

“It’s alleged that the incident occurred at Mnene Shopping Centre where Dr Makura was drinking beer with his friends. I’m not privy to the finer details and circumstances on how the drama unfolded but I referred the matter back to Dr Nyachowe and asked him to follow proper channels and procedures. It’s difficult for me to charge him when the matter is yet to be reported to the police,” said Dr Chemhuru.

An impeccable source at the Lutheran Church -run medical institution however told The Chronicle that Dr Makura stabbed a villager only identified as Maidza in a night club at Mnene Shopping Centre on Friday evening.

The source said the fight was over a girlfriend.

“Dr Makura was involved in a fight at Mnene Shopping Centre over a girlfriend during which he allegedly stabbed a man with the help of his friend,” said a source.

Dr Makura vehemently denied the allegations saying he only witnessed the incident but was never involved.

He said it was the work of his detractors at the hospital whom he accused of trying to frustrate him so that he would quit the institution.

“My brother if I had stabbed someone I would have been arrested. I only witnessed the incident when I was drinking beer at Mnene Shopping Centre,” he said.

Dr Makura said the matter was reported to the police in Mberengwa adding that he was not and is not at all implicated.

“I actually know both people who were involved in the fight and they’re related. I was asleep when I heard the noise outside the bar that’s when I went to find out what was happening,” he said.

“I actually tried to stop the two from fighting but unfortunately when I got there Maidza had already been stabbed.”

Dr Makura said there was a lot of politics at his workplace.

“There are people who want me to quit my job so that they remain in charge and they want to frustrate me by smearing me and tarnishing my image.”

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Joel Goko said he would verify the case, but had not done so by last night.
