Does Katsvairo deserve Chiefs stay? Katsvairo

KAIZER Chiefs’ Mitchell Katsvairo is set to be sent out on loan after falling out of favour and we look at whether the club should reconsider their decision and give him another chance.

It was revealed that Katsvairo has not attracted any interest from other clubs with regards to taking the player on board for a loan stint. As a result, the player’s future remains up in the air.

However, should Katsvairo’s quality be judged on the fact that he scored just one goal throughout the course of last season’s campaign?

The Zimbabwean generally struggled for playing time, playing just 728 minutes, but managed to generate a lot of shots; his 2.47 shots per 90 minutes average led the charts for all of Chiefs’ players (with a minimum 450 minutes played), and 80 percent of his shots were inside the box. However, just 30 percent of his shots hit the target, as he failed to hit the target from some good positions.

The other problem was that his general involvement in the final third was not flattering, completing just 59.2 percent of his final third passes, as he had just 0.62 shot assists per 90 minutes.

“Furthermore, completing just 23.1 percent of his 1.6 open play crosses per 90 did not speak well for his ability to deliver balls into the box from the wings either.

To put this into context, however, the 27-year-old only managed to play in the first half of the season, last playing on December 14 against Bloemfontein Celtic and had very little time to adapt. Perhaps his statistics aren’t reflective of his ability, but coach Steve Komphela is the only man that can truly answer that question. — Soccer Laduma
