A WIFE basher recently appeared in court after allegedly stabbing his neighbour with an okapi knife thrice for trying to stop him from beating up his wife.

Augustine Ncube, 31, from Sibharo farm in Umguza allegedly stabbed Thembelani Sibanda in the stomach, right elbow and in the right shoulder.

He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa facing assault charges.

Ncube told the court he stabbed his neighbour in self- defence.

“I stabbed Sibanda while defending myself after he started assaulting me. It wasn’t my intention to hurt him,” said Ncube.

Maphosa remanded him in custody to August 5.

“I understand the complainant is in a critical condition in hospital for now. The State must also obtain a medical report so we proceed with the matter,” said Maphosa.

Nkathazo Dlodlo for the State told the court that on Monday at around 8.40PM, Ncube was assaulting his wife at their homestead.

Sibanda, the court heard, tried to rescue the woman.

Ncube allegedly reacted violently by plunging his knife into Sibanda’s body. “Ncube stabbed Sibanda three times using a knife and he sustained deep cuts on his stomach, elbow and shoulder,” said Dlodlo.
