RISING contemporary musician gave jazz lovers a taste of his new album Dyara Minamato during a show at Cape to Cairo pub in Bulawayo on Saturday. The lanky Dondo dished out his debut album to a sizeable crowd. Although this was not the same magnitude as the Big Five launch that was held in Harare, Dondo put up a good performance with his fusion of jazz music and Zimbabwean musical instruments such as hosho.

Backed by the Impala Band, Dondo, who is gifted with a powerful soulful voice, was joined on stage by Afro jazz musician Jeys Marabini and Sandra Ndebele. They described Dondo as a humble man who is happy to learn from them and listen to their advice.

Dondo said he needed to listen to them because the two had been in the music industry for decades. “I grew up listening to Sandra Ndebele and Jeys and I must say I liked their music. They’ve taught me a lot of things in terms of the music industry and I’m happy that I’m being supported by Jeys and Sandra,” said Dondo.

With Jeys, the two did an on stage remake of Imbila, which they interchanged between IsiNdebele and Shona. It was the same for Sandra Ndebele when they sang Guva Rangu together much to the delight of the crowd.

The energetic Impala dancers kept the sizeable crowd on their feet as they danced the night away. While this was happening, Dondo’s album was being sold for a $1.
