TWO villagers from Lupane and Tsholotsho who were in the habit of stealing donkeys in the two areas, were yesterday each convicted of eight counts of stock theft.

Police recovered 12 donkeys after intercepting Sikhumbuzo Mathe and Japhet Ndlovu in St Luke’s, Lupane as they drove some of the stolen donkeys recently.

Mathe (44) of Dibutibu in Sipepa, Tsholotsho and Ndlovu, from Hulube in Lupane would either steal donkeys from Hulube and sell them in Sipepa or vice versa.

The two were convicted on their plea by Lupane magistrate Mr Ndumo Masuku.

They were remanded in custody to today for sentence.

An accomplice Mihlayonke Ndlovu (23) was set free when the State withdrew charges after plea on grounds that there was no incriminating evidence against him.

Mathe and Ndlovu exonerated Mihlayonke saying they only asked him to assist to drive the donkeys.
