KK grabs the attention with his shiny suits and his laughter as he struts around in front of the cameras in Muvhango. But actor Macdonald Ndou, 34, is nothing like the role he plays on the popular soapie. Macdonald, who comes from Vuwani, Thohoyandou in Limpopo, is just a regular guy. “I’m reserved. I wear jeans, takkies and T-shirts. I can walk into a room and no one will even notice that I’m there,” he said.

“KK’s way of laughing only happens on set. I’ve never had KK’s rhythm and I never feel that I rule the world. KK is a cheat who uses people.” He said he is also a businessman like KK but he runs his business the right way. “KK is a rich man with no sense of style,” said Macdonald.

He joined Muvhango in 2008 after playing in Distance Past at the State Theatre in Pretoria and Joburg’s Market Theatre with Humbulani Tsharani, who plays Mulimisi in Muvhango.

They won best actor awards at the Sibikwa Drama Festival.

Macdonald once worked as a griller at a Wimpy in Joburg for two years while a member of Tshino Community Theatre in Limpopo and Gauteng.

“I wanted to be closer to my dream of being a full-time actor but my phone didn’t ring a lot,” he said.

“I went back to the theatre and I did radio dramas on Phalaphala FM.

“I later trained to be an actor at the University of Venda and then studied stage performance at the State Theatre.”

He said he hates it when people confuse him with the abusive character he plays on TV, but he loves meeting his fans.

“Fans are happy to meet me and I’m glad to add to their happiness.”

Macdonald contributes to his Vuwani community by motivating pupils and giving them stationery.-Daily Sun
