Don’t draw parallels between us: Dhewa

The “Naye” hitmaker said there was no need to draw parallels between his love life and Macheso’s.

“To be honest with you I have no comment and it is unfortunate that some people would want to make reference between what I went through and what he (Macheso) is going through.

“I believe I was my own man and neither did I make reference to anyone. Right now I would want to talk about my upcoming album that is due for release anytime soon,” Dhewa said.

He said this in reference to comments made by Macheso’s wife Nyadzisai that she would not commit suicide like the late Barbara Muchengeti, Dhewa’s wife of 10 years.

Barbara committed suicide after Dhewa took a second wife Miniehle Mukweli into their Msasa home in Kwekwe.

In an interview with our sister paper, H-Metro, Nyadzisai confirmed Macheso’s love affair with Tafadzwa Mapako, which she said she approved of.

“If Alick marrying a second wife was something I had not accepted, you could have heard that I had committed suicide, as Tongai Moyo’s wife did,” she said.

Reports of Macheso’s love affair with Tafadzwa have become fodder for local Press with his fans roundly condemning Macheso’s decision to have a second wife.

Most people are of the opinion that what the Orchestra Mberikwazvo boss did was contrary to the messages in his long playlist of hits particularly the song “Murume”.

Be that as it may, Dhewa as he is popularly known to his legions of fans said he was now focusing on music. The upcoming album titled “Toita Basa” aptly sums where his focus is. Loosely translated it means “let’s get busy”.

Those privy to the album have already approved it as a gem that would put Dhewa back at the summit of the sungura music genre. The much-anticipated Toita Basa will bring his catalogue of albums to 13 since he debuted with “Vimbo”.

His last release was “Muridzi Wenyaya”, which was released in 2008. It has been two years since Dhewa last released an album and the forthcoming album is more than welcome.

Like all his albums, the six-track album will feature a medley of sounds including a gospel number titled “Ndinovimba”, which according to Dhewa, is laden with words of encouragement.

“It’s a song for hope, joy and all the positive things in life. In life there comes a point where you simply put everything in God’s hands,” he said.

Going by the number of fans attending his live shows in Harare, it seems Dhewa is having a great time in office these days.

So energetic is Dhewa on stage that one could not tell that the sungura star is battling with cancer. It is business as usual and he is gunning for glory.

Already, he is part of a bill that also features superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and Sulumani Chimbetu at the spacious Andy Millar Hall on October 1.

The gig put together by Chipaz Promotions will also see AY Band, the late Sam Mtukudzi’s backing group performing. Both Tuku and Dhewa are expected to sample some of their upcoming hits from the albums still bubbling under.

Tuku is set to release his 58th album titled “Rudaviro” in a career spanning over 30 years of recording.
