FREE-SCORING Wha Wha striker, Albert Matewu has pledged to break the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) goal scoring record come end of the season.
Nicknamed Dracula for his ruthless efficiency in front of goal, Matewu has so far netted 15 goals in 13 matches he has played so far in the 14-team league.

The record for the most goals scored in one season in the CSL is held by Chapungu striker, Callisto Maheya whose 22 goal haul in 2011 ensured that Hardbody gain promotion to the top flight league.

Matewu said he is equal to the challenge despite the fact that the league now has fewer teams than in 2011 when Hardbody pipped the now defunct Tripple B to the crown in a league which had 16 teams.

“I am happy with my form and the coach (Luke Petros-Jukulile) for showing confidence in me and not putting pressure on me to perform. I am happy that this has helped me deliver.

“I am targeting to score 25 goals or more this season and I do not see anything stopping me,” declared the 26-year-old who arrived at Wha Wha last season from fellow Correctional Services side, Flame Lily.

Matewu who netted five goals last season said he could have done better had he been given more game time by then coach, Terrence Mhiripiri.

Jukulile, a former good striker in his heydays said Dracula could even become a better striker if he works on his finishing where he needs to be more precise in front of goal.

After finishing high school at Glen Norah 1 in 2004 where he was not serious about pursuing a career in football, Matewu finally got a football calling in 2007 when he joined Harare City (then Zinwa).

In 2009 he scored 19 goals, the highest goal haul so far in his career in the process helping the Sunshine Boys to a fourth place finish.
In 2011 his nine goals helped Harare City to win promotion into the Premiership from the Zifa Northern Division One only to be offloaded following the departure of Arthur Tutani who was replaced by current coach, Bigboy Mawiwi.

He later joined Flame Lily before trekking to the Central Region.
