BULAWAYO Motoring Club (BMC) racing action continues on Saturday with another drag contest at the Victoria Falls Road Circuit. This would be the fifth BMC event of the season and third public drag meeting after the first round was held in February. Drag racing is a competition between two cars or bikes of the same engine capacity competed over a distance of 400m.

BMC vice chairman Zane Shah said all was set for the one day event and the city motor racing enthusiasts should brace themselves for a fun-filled and action packed day.

“All is in place for the event. The competitors will be awarded certificates and personalised trophies for the top three winners in each category. Fans should come in their numbers to witness the best drivers and bikers in the city and Harare compete,” he said.
Shah said he would be among the drivers in contention for the fastest car having won it last time in February at the same venue.

In addition to the one day event there will be a 100m dirt bike drag, with the bikers from the City’s Ruff Riders Club.
“I will be looking forward to continuing from where I left last time. Other drivers should expect a tough race although Terry Aubrey is back with his Cobra replica after having it re-done, it is now faster than before,” he said.

Shah urged the public to come and race legally as they are still maintaining their motto “Race Legal” in a bid to counter street racing which is a threat to the lives of drivers and civilians.

“We encourage anyone who is interested in motor racing to bring their cars given that this is an open race for all as the name suggests that it is open to the public. We have a safe environment for the race with ambulances on standby in cases of emergency unlike in the risky street racing,” he said.

He said there would be no charge for BMC members to compete while non-members would fork out $5 plus $10 for insurance whereas gate charges remain at $5.

According to Shah, there would be a knockout competition which would be the last activity of the day to decide the knockout champion and the race will see all the cars competing against each other starting with the slowest until there is only one left and awards for the fastest bike and fastest car on the day, taken from any timed and recorded race from the whole event.

This event is supported by Car and Gearbox Bar, Colourworld Paint and Hardware, OK Mart Bulawayo and Shield Security.
